The Kentucky Communications Network Authority (KCANA) is a state agency in need of a reliable and proactive paralegal. The paralegal will work directly with our attorneys to prepare for upcoming cases and be directly involved in fact-finding projects. This is a not-merit position serving the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Our workload is challenging and the ideal candidate for this position is organized, professional, responsible, and committed to helping us meet all of our agency's needs. Candidates must have the following skills:
Strong organizational ability
Excellent communication ability
Strong research and writing capability
Experienced in MS Office suite and other computer functions
Attention to detail
Works well independently
Understanding of the Kentucky Open Records Act
Duties and responsibilities:
Conduct research, legal or otherwise, as assigned.
Draft legal documents, correspondence and memoranda, as requested.
Attend executive meetings and take notes
Participate in open records searches, reviews and responses
Organize documents and files
Utilize project's document management system for most agency correspondence
Review invoices from external legal firms to ensure accuracy and completeness
Document and track outstanding issues
Assist in preparation for Board meetings
Attend legislative committee meetings, take notes and prepare memoranda relating thereto.
Stay actively informed of new developments in the law affecting KentuckyWired and broadband internet.
Other duties as assigned by the attorneys and agency's executives.
Education & Experience:
Candidates should hold at least an Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies (Bachelor's degree preferred), have excellent communications and organizational abilities, strong research and report-generating skills, and experience in using legal database software.
At least 2 years' experience required (prefer experience in telecommunications industry).
